Rupert came to us with diabetes and cataracts and near death from insulin shock, an upper respiratory infection and pancreatitis. After 2 weeks in the hospital, he went home to his foster mom's where he seemed to thrive. One day about 3 weeks later he just stopped eating. He wouldn't eat anything his foster mom gave him, not chicken or ground beef. The next morning his foster mom was at the door of our vet waiting for them to open and by the end of the day we knew what the problem was. Rupert had an obstruction in his his intestines but X-rays could not determine if it was organic or foreign objects. He went into surgery and 5 hours later we knew. He had pieces of shoes, carpet and sometihing undescribable removed. Another 2 weeks in the hospital and he was ready to go home to his foster mom's again.
It was then that we decided Rupert needed to be in a special place with out Shepherds like him. We sent out a plea to Shepherd Rescues and The Montana Shepherd Rescue came thru. The last pictures of Rupert show how he is thriving in his new home in the mountains and fresh air. Rupert is a special member of the CMDR Strong dog team and always will have a special place in our hearts.
